If you become a member of the Downingtown Chapter of the National Honor Society, you must agree to comply with the following rules:
ATTENDANCE: Meetings are held monthly (See Schedule) and attendance is mandatory. Each member is permitted two absences throughout the school year. The first absence is excused. Upon being absent on the second occasion, the member will be docked one half (1/2) credit. If a third meeting is missed, the member will be dismissed from the National Honor Society.
EARN SERVICE CREDITS: Since NHS is a service organization, each member is required to complete 5 service credits. Two of these credits must be earned through NHS activities, and the other three may be earned through teacher-aiding, tutoring, or other activities. To earn credits, members must both sign in and out. All seniors must have received their 5 credits by May 1st. Any member who does not receive their 5 credits will be dismissed from NHS and not permitted re-application. Any Senior who fails to receive 5 credits will have all colleges to which they were accepted notified of their dismissal. ? credits will be deducted from members who fail to comply with NHS set due dates after receiving one warning (i.e. failure to return Candy Sales on time).
PAY DUES: Dues are required to help meet the financial responsibilities of NHS. Dues total $10.00.
TO RETAIN MEMBERSHIP IN NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY YOU MUST NOT:
1. Get suspended from school.
2. Be suspended from any other school activity due to misbehavior.
3. Let your cumulative average (GPA) fall below 3.5.
4. Fail to work or get a substitute when you have committed to work for an NHS function.
5. Violate any of the above rules.
6. Commit any crime.
Any student whose membership has been revoked will not be eligible for readmission into the Society.
